After a while, one becomes numb to all the endless clones of fantastic original applications like Photoshop. Paintstar is one such awful clone. The write up for Paintstar promises much but delivers little. In my attempt to do even the simplest of photo manipulation, my system would slow to a crawl and eventually crash. Barring the plain and un-intuitive interface, Paintstar may even be a promising photo-editing suite one day. But as it stands, it is slow, buggy and last in line at the races.

PaintStar is a versatile digital image processing software suitable for such tasks as retouching of photographs, composing and authoring images, image morphing, screen capture, and displaying image thumbnail in Windows Explorer context menu. It supports alpha, layer, path ,and the most common editing techniques. PaintStar has many of the tools and filters you would expect to find in commercial offerings, and some interesting extras as well.
