Simplicity isnÂ’t necessarily a bad thing, and sometimes less is more, such as with Flashnote, a small, free note-taking utility for your PC. Although there are plenty of note taking utilities available already, either for you to download or bundled with your operating system, like Microsoft Notepad, Flashnote manages to differentiate itself from the competition by providing a super blend of simplicity and convenience. All you have to do is hit the designated short-cut key and the application pops up on screen, allowing you to store any information quickly and conveniently without having to navigate complicated menus or wait through lengthy load times. When you are done, just Hit the escape key and the window minimizes to the system tray, keeping all your stored information for access at a later stage. After taking a few moments to familiarize yourself with this simple process, taking notes and saving vital information Flashnote becomes second nature, and after extended use you will wonder how you ever managed without it in the first place. All in all, a brilliantly simple freeware application which can only be described as a stroke of pure genius.

How often do you need to quickly write something down? Whether it's recording a telephone number when the phone book is far away, saving a URL to reuse or just copying pieces of text for editing, there is any number of examples. And just as many solutions: open Notepad, use a personal information manager (e.g. My Notes Center), or use some other programs for creating and saving text. But all those options are slow. Even a PIM is a "heavy" class program. And before you use it to make rough notes, you must create a new file or find a place to write without creating a “litter" of files or damaging important work.


Flashnote was created for such cases. When you need a rough copy to save or to process some pieces of a text, Flashnote is small, quick and convenient. Press the shortcut-key combination and a rough copy is on screen in a flash of a second. Press ESC and the program hides. It's that simple.
