Review by FileBEAST's Nameless_1:
In theory, Windows XP Tweaks sounds like an excellent idea, and is meant to perform various adjustments to your operating system to improve overall performance. In reality however, this is not exactly the case. The first problem with Windows XP Tweaks is the lack of an interface. The utility installs and then performs the adjustments automatically, meaning that you have no control over what is done to your system to improve performance. This wouldnÂ’t be a huge issue if the application made significant improvements, but it doesnÂ’t. Windows XP Tweaks works by automatically disabling the Windows messenger and indexing services and changes the registry to force kernel loading to memory. The result is decidedly disappointing, and youÂ’d be hard pressed to notice any real improvement in system performance. With a whole range of comprehensive system tweaking alternatives available for free download, it is very difficult to see any use for Windows XP Tweaks.
Publishers Description
Windows XP Tweaks will make Windows XP more responsive and less irritating by performing the following system tweaks:
* Loads the kernel (Windows XP system core) into physical memory instead of virtual memory - Note: Physical memory (RAM) is many times faster then virtual memory.
* Forces Windows XP to use more physical memory
* Disables the Indexing service - Improves Windows XP performance
* Disables the Messenger service - Removes annoying messenger popup advertisements
Windows XP Tweaks performs all the tweaks automatically when you install the program. No additional steps are required.
Once Windows XP Tweaks is installed, you can test the results by restarting your computer and launching a program that usually takes a long time to load. Once the program is loaded, close and re-open it. You should notice a boost in speed the second time the program is opened.
Windows XP Tweaks is not recommended if you are running either SQL Server or Internet Information Server (IIS). If you are not sure chances are you are not running them.
