Review by FileBEAST's Dr Norris:
Babala is a fast paced, action/strategy hybrid shooter. You are tasked with clearing the minefield or playing ground of all the Babala's (they look like hyperactive alphabet characters'). It's fast fun and free. The graphics are of course terrible and the sound is grating on the ears. But the intense action that heats up on the battlefield is literally palatable. Drop bombs, lay traps and cause mayhem. And all for free ;)
Review by FileBEAST's J.W.B:
So rare is it to find something new and interesting when it comes to freeware games, that Babala had me sit up and take notice right from the outset. Babala is essentially a turn based strategy game, where players have to dispose of enemies called "Babalaks" in a limited number of moves, by either firing shots or placing mines. After each one of the players moves, the "Babalaks" are allowed a measured advance in response, and if one of them reaches the main character the game is over. The sheer genius of Babala lies in the simple, logic based approach players are forced to adopt, and what starts out as a very easy game, soon becomes incredibly difficult. Babala is a real treat for strategy fans, or anyone looking for a break from the flood of mindless action orientated freeware games available. Although Babala is slow and requires some thought, it is by no means boring. Graphics and sound are sub-par, but somehow that doesn't seem to matter when the game is so enjoyable and absorbing.
Babala - Info
Babala is a simple logical game with elements of move strategy. At the start of the contest, the enemy figures "Balabaks" are situated on the playing field. To battle them, you have but limited moves and shots (or laying of mines) that you can make during your each round; then the enemy is allowed a measured advance. If any Balabak reaches you, you're mugged, you lose. The enemy can't shoot.
Your task is to survive and dispose of all Balabaks. To do this you must choose suitable movements or shots, and that won't be so easy. There may be obstacles and certain rigged perils, critically situated, or distant ammunition stores that have to be reached. You may have to shoot through a wall at Balabaks, and you have a limited numbers of shots. If you don't have enough munitions, then you must tempt the enemy into a trap.
