Anyone running Windows XP has probably already installed Windows XP SP2 (Complete). This latest service pack for the OS offers a host of new features and improvements over the original Windows XP installation and service pack 1. The application, generously released for free by Microsoft, installs much like the OS itself, and offers a host of updates, chief among which are the new firewall, internet explorer pop-up blocker and security centre. These features improve the overall security and stability of the OS significantly. There appear to be no real flaws or compatibility issues present, allowing for smooth all round performance. The file is a whopping 266MB, making it very difficult for dial-up users to download it, and although you can order it on CD form Microsoft, this will no doubt entail a lengthy wait. Many new programs and applications for the Windows XP OS now require SP2, so if you donÂ’t have it then thatÂ’s reason enough to download it right away. Windows XP SP2 (Compete) is an essential operating system update, offering some vital security and compatibility improvements. Needless to say, if you are currently running Windows XP, then you need this service pack.
